Why do skyscr offices leave the lights on alway?

In this day of environmental concerns, and where we're pestered to switch to compact florescent bulbs, drive small or no cars, and use less toilet paper, why aren't the Al Gores of the world protesting that some skyscrs are fully lit all night - even though the offices are empty.
