Shame on my brother?

he recently confided in me that he befriended an elderly lady at the convalescent home he works in. he has been using her credit card and has racked up a 15,000 bill. she suffers from dymensia so sometimes she says its okay and other times she gets angry at him. credit card fraud people have contacted him and now he is worried. I told him to try to repay her but he says he doesn't have the cash. Is he slime of the earth or just hard pressed for cash? i love my brother and don't want to see him go to jail. should i dip into my 401k to help/
