Amanda knox being sued?

I have been reading about the Amanda Knox trial and I do not understand how all these people expect her to pay so much money considering she was a college student when she was put in jail, so she obviously has no money. Patrick is suing her for like $700,000 and Meredith's family is suing her for alot of money as well. I totally understand why they are suing her, but how is she suppose to pay them? Will she just have to spend even more time in jail because she will be unable to make payments?
