Have Christian organizations become too authoritarian and made people too scared to be independent?

They’re like parents; some parents won’t let their children out of their sight. They are continuously hovering over their children, fussing about them and they never trust their children to make their own judgments. Consequently, these children grow up to be sheep without the courage to be independent. This is exactly how Christian religions treat the members of their congregation, right? They act like overbearing parents who won’t ever let their children use their own judgment and consequently, their children never mature and never gain independence, right?
