How to subtly hint to a guy that I like him?

I'm a freshman and the guy I like is an 8th grader at the junior high. we're the same age. he just got held back. so I text him all the time & I'm starting to likke him.. but I don't see him very often so i can't hint physically. what kind of things should I say to hint that I like him? thanks!
